How to Write an Amazon Product Description That Actually Converts
Most Amazon product descriptions just restate the bullet points in paragraph form. Here is a 5-step framework that gives shoppers a reason to actually buy, not just skim.
The 5-step framework
- Name the buyer's problem. Open with the specific frustration your product solves — not a generic statement about the product category.
- Present the solution. Introduce your product as the direct answer to that problem, in one or two sentences.
- Back it with specifics.Real dimensions, materials, certifications, or test results — vague claims like "high quality" convince no one.
- Address the top 1–2 objections. Whatever question stops people from buying (durability, sizing, compatibility) — answer it directly in the copy.
- Close with the use case. Paint a specific scenario of the product in use so the shopper can picture owning it.
What to avoid
- Meaningless adjectives — "state-of-the-art", "highest quality", "premium" — without a specific fact behind them.
- Repeating your bullet points word-for-word in paragraph form. The description should add context, not duplicate.
- Walls of unbroken text. Use short paragraphs and line breaks (or HTML formatting if your category supports A+ Content) so it's scannable on mobile.
- Writing for yourself instead of your buyer. Every sentence should answer 'what does this mean for the person reading it.'
Example: weak vs. strong
Weak:"Our premium yoga mat is made with the highest quality materials for the best workout experience."
Strong:"Slipping mid-pose breaks focus and, worse, causes injury. This mat uses a textured non-slip base tested to hold grip on hardwood and tile even when sweat-soaked, so you can move through a full session without resetting your stance."
